About Us
We are a ‘single congregation’ ecumenical partnership between the Methodist and Anglican churches and are a partner church with Beverley Minster and a constituent church of Beverley Methodist Circuit, which consists of Toll Gavel United Church and three smaller churches.
Our worship pattern reflects the pastoral ministry shared between Beverley Minster and the Methodist Circuit –
- 1st Sunday in the month – non-eucharistic service usually led alternately by a minister or local preacher from the Methodist Circuit.
- 2nd Sunday – Holy Communion, Anglican style
- 3rd Sunday – All-age Worship, led by a team drawn from both denominations
- 4th Sunday – Holy Communion, Methodist style
- 5th Sunday – Informal Worship, led alternately by Methodists and Anglicans.
The church has a fortnightly group – the Wednesday Club – for over 60s. There is a monthly Friday evening ‘Youth Kaf’ for ages 10 to 14.
The church is very active in the community and our major events such as the Garden Party, Christmas Show and Scarecrow Hunt are part of the village calendar, well-supported by our fellow residents.
We have more than 60 people on our Community Roll with congregations of 20 to 25 most Sundays. Special services such as the Christingle on Christmas Eve attract large congregations of about 100!
We have strong links with Tickton C of E School – we lead a whole-school assembly once a week and run a lunchtime club called ‘Incredibles’, as well as having representation on the governing body.
Clergy
We have two clergy who spend part of their time working with us: from the Methodist Circuit, Revd Peter Cross, and the Vicar of Beverley Minster, Revd Canon Jonathan Baker.
Also leading worship in normal times are Revd Wendy Whale, the Associate Vicar of Beverley Minster parish, Revd Tim Kelly, Curate at Beverley Minster, and several retired or non-stipendiary clergy and lay people from both denominations.
